BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY 

Cagayan de Oro City is a highly urbanized city which is considered as the Capital of Region X.  It is one of the major lines in economic growth chain that is Cagayan de Oro City-Iligan Corrigidor.  It is known as the City of Golden Frienship because of the friendly smiles and hospitality of its people.

As the gateway of Northern MIndanao,  it is geographically situated between coastline of Macajalar Bay in the NOrth and naturally rich plateaus and mountains of Bukidnon and Lanao del Norte in the South.  It is bounded by the municipalities of Opol in the West and Tagoloan in the East
. 

The Total land area is 488, 858 square kilometers with 80 barangays;  63 of which are in urban and 17 are in the rural areas.  Its population of 461, 877 is based on 2002 Census Population and Housing by the National Statistics Office.

The influx of big business establishment like Gaisano Mall, SM, Robinsons, Limketkai, MAKRO, and the mushroom-like sprouting of banks among others contributed to the high migration rate of Cagayan de Oro City.  The rapid population growth necessitates the need for more schools,  teachers,  classrooms,  instructional facilities and equipment to cope with the demands of its rising population.

     The Division of  Cagayan de Oro City used to be a part of the division of Misamis Oriental.  In August 1953 the Cagayan de Oro City Division was created as a separate division.  A year after, the Division was returned to the Division of Misamis Oriental, there being no Schools Division Superintendent.  On May 1, 1963 it stood again as a separate division with Mr. Esteban C. Sarmiento as the first City Schools Division Superintendent. The following has served as Superintendents: Crisogono Z. Abejo, Raymundo V. Aldana, Cesario A. Balintag, Teodoro P. Dano, Domingo L. Martinez, Eden G. Afdal, Thelma R. Rocha, Sol F. Matugas, Manuela G. Magtajas, Antonio L. Intong, Lourdes C. Pabayo, Rosemary P. Gellor, Sinforosa A. Guiñares, Ellenita T. Martinez, Isabelita M. Borres, Fely T. Yu, Lourdes G. Tolod, Myrna S. Motoomull.
